Media-Whore D'Oeuvres

"Muammar Qaddafi, the possibly microwaved leader of Libya, sent a letter to Barack Obama requesting that he quell the air strikes against the North African nation. In the message, Qaddafi addressed Obama as 'our son.' Was Obama born in Libya? And is he a secret son of Muammar Qaddafi? Donald Trump sets the story straight on Fox and Friends tomorrow morning. Anyway, some of the phrasing in Qaddfi’s letter may seem familiar—pun initially unintended. Qaddafi’s mixture of passive aggression and infantilizing flattery is straight out of the overbearing mother’s handbook." (VanityFair)

"Daphne Guinness will get dressed for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in the windows of Barneys as part of an art installation at the famed Madison Avenue store. Style queen Guinness and Barneys are collaborating on a six-week exhibition, 'Fashion as Art,' where Guinness will conduct several performances -- one of which will be the fashion muse prepping for the gala in full view of shoppers and passersby. The installation will also include items from Guinness' wardrobe, including pieces acquired from style icon Isabella Blow, and a short documentary on Guinness. The Barneys project launches May 2, the day of the Costume Institute Gala, to celebrate the opening of the exhibit 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.'" (PageSix)

"The good news is that a certain Jeffrey Epstein, friend of Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton, may still be in the soup. I certainly hope so. Epstein lives down the street from me on 71st Street in the Bagel, which makes it very uncomfortable for a sensitive soul like myself. I cannot walk by his house without having a panic attack, and if you believe that, you’ll believe that Epstein is simply a pervert and not a grotesque child molester. The good news is that court papers filed on March 21 say that the US Attorney’s Office violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act by signing a non-prosecution agreement with the sex offender without notifying his victims. Gotcha, you bum. I wrote of this long ago. The fix was in because of Bill Clinton and other such whores who managed to get him a soft sentence and—as it looks now—an invalid agreement because the victims’ rights were violated. I sure hope so. Nothing would make my upcoming holidays onboard Bushido more pleasant than to know Epstein will go back to jail. Mind you, I doubt it. He will pay off the victims and probably be on the Riviera this summer. If Gaddafi’s murderous family can come and go as they please while beating people up and receiving doctorates to boot, why can’t a little ole child molester pay his way to the Côte d’Azur?" (Taki)

"Early evening: A book signing for Jennet Conant and her new non-fiction piece, A Covert Affair; Julia Child and Paul Child in the OSS (Simon & Schuster Publishers). Hosted by Sara Ayres, Tory Burch, Ariadne Calvo-Platero, Cristina Cuomo, Jill Fairchild, Jeanne Greenberg, Gigi Mortimer, Perri Pletz, Renee Rockefeller, Peggy Siegal and Kitty Sherrill at Perri and Eric Ruttenberg’s on Beekman Place ... This is Jenny’s fourth book. The first three (all bestsellers) — Tuxedo Park, The Irregulars, 109 East Palace — all center around or arise out of the Second World War. Jenny’s paternal grandfather, James B. Conant was the distinguished President of Harvard in the 1940s and 50s but was also in on the inception and planning stages of the Atom Bomb — which led to her first book, Tuxedo Park (where the initial meetings were held).  The success of that book led to what is now a quartet about that time, that war and the personalities engaged in its activities and the political repercussions thereafter ... From the Conant book party, I grabbed a cab and headed down the FDR, around the tip of Manhattan and up to 7 World Trade Center where the New Museum was holding its 'Spring Gala' benefit on the 45 floor of the building. Honorary Host was Susan Sarandon (although I didn’t see her – which doesn’t mean she wasn’t there)." (NYSocialDiary)

"It would have been hard to beat the head-spinning scene that I witnessed at Michael’s last Wednesday, but this week came close. A camera crew from WNBC-TV’s LX-TV was on hand filming a segment on celebrity lunch spots as the masters of the universe (Barry Diller) and socialites (Melania Trump, swathed in mink) strolled in and air-kissed their way to their tables. When Amy Rosenblum, the show’s producer, heard I was having lunch with comedy icon Sinbad and his family to talk about their new reality show for WE tv, her ears perked up. 'Perfect!' she said. 'We’ll come over and borrow him for our segment.' Having never met the comedian, I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to find that 10 minutes after the family arrived (right on time!) fresh off their morning at SiriusXM, it felt as if I’d known them all forever. They’re the anti-Osbournes! Named one of the Top 100 Stand-up Comedians of All Time by Comedy Central and a sitcom (A Different World, The Sinbad Show) vet, Sinbad told me the new show, Sinbad: It’s Just Family (premiering April 12 at 10 pm on WE tv) is a marked departure of the bumper crop of dysfunctional family fright fests that populate the reality TV landscape."
