Media-Whore D'Oeuvres

"Why was he there? Who wasn’t invited and why? What did they talk about? Why was he really there? These are the questions being debated this morning about Obama’s visit last night to the home (dare I say 'lavish Woodside estate') of tech investor and Google board member John Doerr. Stanford University President John Hennessy (also a Google board member) was present and so was Google CEO Eric Schmidt, but not incoming Google CEO Larry Page ... Apple and Facebook get spots next to Obama. Twitter’s off to one side — as is Google and Yahoo ... Of those on the 'not invited' list, Benioff and and Apotheker are 'local' in Silicon Valley. Another important 'local' not present is Intel CEO Paul Otellini. Otellini a past administration critic was recently appointed to President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. The stated purpose of the visit was discussion of 'innovation' and jobs creation with the leaders of the 'new economy.' The cynics — Sarah Palin might call them 'haters' — believe Obama was there to lay a foundation for his re-election campaign and line these folks up as donors. The SF Chronicle produced a list of attendees and their past political contributions .." (SearchEnglineLand)

"Doing a striptease or wearing sexy clothing really makes a guy hot. The key to a good striptease is to emphasize your best body parts! Play music that makes you feel sexy and wear something easy to take off, for example something that will slide down your body when you undo the zip/button. Always keep eye contact, and remember that slow moves work better. You can use a chair if you’re more adventurous, but the best basic move is like a figure of eight of hips and shoulders, while slowly removing your clothes, switching from front view to back view." "As a child living on a farm in Queensland, Kevin Rudd, who would one day become prime minister of Australia, used to build castles out of cow feed. 'Have you made up your mind in life?' his father would ask the frail boy, exasperated by his son’s dreamy neglect of bovine care. 'Is it going to be beef or dairy?' Rudd laughs when he tells the story. But it is a laugh tinged with sadness ... When Rudd arrives, a discreet murmur of recognition goes up. He is taller than I had supposed. Wearing a black suit with a white shirt, his shock of white hair is incongruous against a cherubic face. He seems relaxed as he scans the wine list. 'I suppose we should have a Kiwi one,' he tells the waitress. 'OK, he’s a Brit, so he’ll drink a bottle,' he needles. He is soft-spoken, almost droll, in his delivery. He explains that he has been at Brisbane’s cricket ground. Although it is a Saturday, he is on duty. 'My job for the morning was explaining the finer points of the game to a visiting Chinese delegation,' he says. Rudd was obliged to draw on his excellent Mandarin, which he learnt at university in Australia and during stints as a student in Taiwan and a diplomat in Beijing in the 1980s. I wondered how he had explained leg-before-wicket in Chinese. 'If you stand in front of the three bamboo sticks,' Rudd begins, re-enacting his valiant attempt. The waitress is back with our bottle of Rapaura Springs, a Sauvignon Blanc that goes perfectly with summer weather." (FT)

"After taking a total digger at the Fendi party (no joke you should see my knee) I decided to calm things down a bit and wear shorter heels. I cut my schedule in half but, I still managed to fly around manhattan at least a billion times. Friday morning began with the Rebecca Taylor show followed by Costello Tagliapietra. If you don’t know either of these designers I highly suggest you check them out immediately! Rebecca’s clothes are incredibly feminine, comfortable and flirty – I think half of my wardrobe is her dresses. Costello Tagliapietra makes some of the most incredibly designed, chic and gorgeous duds that are out there. They’re also two of the sweetest, kindest and adorable men. Following my AM activities I ran back to my hotel to change and to meet Alex who was in town for a little work of his own. Once clad in my Nicole Miller frock we darted back uptown to say hi to Nicole and show our support at her amazing show. Nicole never disappoints and this year was one more example. I wanted everything on the runway. Everything. Nicole’s show was followed by a whirlwind of a weekend which included Cynthia Rowley, an event for the Humane Society, dinner at NOBU, a party for Purple Magazine, the Elise Overland show, a fun brunch at the Standard Grill with friends, dinner at The Lion with Nicole and her lovely husband and very very little sleep."
