Howard Stern Versus His Audience

As a longtime fan of the Howard Stern Show this blogger is well aware that there is an -- ahem -- unsavory element that also listens to the show. The politically incorrect, freewheeling, libertarian aspect to the conversation attracts right wingers, truckers, gun owning, trailer-residing Americans. Oftentimes these listeners conflict with Howard's more sophisticated, urbane positions (Stern, socially liberal, lives in New York City and the Hamptons). Yesterday, Stern attacked Sarah Palin's lack of gravitas.

R'uh-oh.

Unfortunately, many of his listeners are Palin acolytes. They didn't approve. When worlds collide. From Marksfriggin:

"Howard said people were upset about him voicing his opinion on Sarah Palin yesterday and the email was all about that. Howard said that's what's on his mind so he's not sure why people are listening if they don't want to hear that stuff. He said he doesn't enjoy entertaining some of the fucking morons in the audience.

"Howard said there are certain topics they don't want to hear."

Stern supported Hillary Clinton in the primary and Obama in the general election. He ran for Governor of New York as a libertarian in 1994, contributing, arguably to Republican Pataki's victory. He is an interesting bellwether as to how Independents are breaking.
