Robin Givens, Formerly Robin Tyson

Granted, the Robin Givens of 2008 is not the same Robin Givens of 1988. The old ambitions have died down; the chasing of millionaire atheletes has ceased. From all reports she is now a dedicated mother and all-around serious person. But that whole Mike Tyson thing was kind of dodgy. They seemed like incommensurables. She struck us as smart, a little intense, and fundamentally serious. Tyson, on the other hand, has always been prone to impromptu street fights. Legion are the celebrities that have been punched out by Mike Tyson in -- how does one say this? -- "unscheduled heavyweight fights." So when Robin Givens, who received somewhere north of $8 million in their acrimonious split with Mike Tyson, professes that it was all legit, color us skeptical. From David Allen Grier's appearance on the Howard Stern Show last week via Markfriggin:

"David said that he and Damon Wayans were hanging out with her in her trailer on the movie and asked her what happened between her and Mike Tyson. Robin said 'We were just two young kids in love..' and had tears welling up. David said they walked out and cracked up when they heard that."

If Oscars were given out for playing make-believe in real life, Givens would be boogying at Graydon Carter's afterparty festooned with statuettes.
