Obama's $52 Million

(image via georgiaunfiltered)

It was a good month for Senator Obama, considering that May was his weakest month (he raised $21.9 million then). More money allows the Senator to compete in states like Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and Colorado, effectively changing the poltical map. The "Obama for Alaska" campaign is kind of out there, but -- hey! -- maybe he's just trying to get up in McCain's head. Rattle McCain's game up a little bit. From Politico:

"The Obama campaign rolls out its June fundraising numbers today, which meet the sky-high expectations the campaign faces and surpass a recent wave of rumors of a relatively slow month.

"The sum nearly equals Obama's -- and the American political -- record of $55 million in February.

"Spokesman Bill Burton e-mails that the campaign raised a total of $52 million in the month of June with an average donation of just $68, giving the campaign and the DNC a total of nearly $72 million cash on hand.

The campaign has recently begun to tap maxed-out large donors for large general election contributions, but the average suggests that Obama has continued to rely on small donors.

Despite the good month, the combined McCain and RNC retain a cash-on-hand advantage -- partly because Obama has outspent McCain on television and organization."
