Keanu Reeves Regains American Accent

On The Tonight Show Keanu Reeves, who for many years had descended into what can only be properly construed as a "Brit Ishman"/ Madge flavored accent (don't they all follow Madonna?), has thus reverted back to his Hawaiian-born, Toronto-bred, All-American type bo-hunk. For some reason actors -- perhaps because of the weak sense of self that draws them to perform as charachters other than themselves -- almost uniformly go through some sort of Britisher period. This may have something to do with what the once eminent-now forgotten sociologist VF Calverton called "The Colonial Complex." Or maybe the long slough through the mother tongue was a result of Keanu's odd "surfer" accent in Dangerous Liaisons, for which he was duly excoriated by the critics. And Box Office, as they say in Tinseltown, validates self-concept. How else does one explain -- wild speculation here -- Tom Cruise quixotically divorcing Nicole Kidman on the heels of their joint box office and critical failure in "Eyes Wide Shut."

We will not entertain the possibility that his former paramour, the notoriously clingy Amanda de Cadenet had anything to do with Keanu's lost years speaking like a Brit.
