More on "The Gay Cowboy Movie"

Only a man knows how to love a man. (image via themoviezine)

We are fascinated at the phenomenon that is "Brokeback Mountain," which, already, in just the ironic choice-of-a-title makes us chuckle softly, as we sip a chilled glass of Grappa (AKA, the afternoon "constitutional"). Now, this, from Premiere Magazine, November 2005, just when we thought we had heard everything:

"Like (Heath) Ledger, who told a Canadian newspaper, I'll be ... wrangling cattle, and Jake Gyllenhaal,' the actor has kept his sense of humor about what inevitably has been dubbed 'the gay cowboy movie.'

"After watching them give each other 'the best, Western macho kiss' (Director Ang) Lee wryly advised, 'When you kiss a girl, you can never kiss her that hard.'

"Lee remembers that for a scene in which Ledger's real life girlfriend, Michelle Williams, playing his wife, would see them simialrly kissing, the actress 'wanted them to do it to really inspire her reaction shot, and they're sort of necking at each other, and she got angry and yelled at them, 'Come on guys, for real.'

"Recalls Gyllenhaal, 'Heath and I were both saying, 'Let's get the love scenes over as fast as we can -- all right, cool.'"

We imagine the word "dude," and "guy" was also thrown in -- often -- for manly effect at the end of every sentence on set. And, just a guess, there was lots of question-asking in basso profunodo voices about whether or not the cast "saw the game last night."
