DPC's Blue Eyed Soul

Our favorite Knickerbocker, his serene highness of the cafe society blog, David Patrick Columbia, gets in touch with his inner soul brother. We always knew he had it in him. All it took was a fortuitous encounter with some Rosemary Baby Lamb chops for DPC to realize his "inner black man." According to that significant cultural artifact, NYSocialDiary:

"Tuesday night I went over to Dizzys Club Coca-Cola, a jazz club at Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Time Warner building where Ashley Schiff was giving a casual little dinner for a group of friends to introduce them to the place. Named for jazz legend John Birks 'Dizzy' Gillespie, its been made possible to New Yorkers and all their friends by a leadership gift from Coca-Cola."

And then the conversation turns ...

"What. A. Great. Place!! Open every night, 365 days a year, from 6 PM till 3 AM, it is where musicians go to hang and jam. When Wynton Marsalis is in town, hes there almost every night. A lot of celebrities visit regularly - Oscar nominees Don Cheadle and Clint Eastwood were both hanging out there recently. The menu, which is by Spoonbread, New Yorks largest African-American owned, full-service caterer on recipes, menu and cocktail receptions. The menu is designed to reflect the diversity of jazz and the regions, such as: Rosemary Baby Lamb Chops; lightly seasoned with rosemary, garlic, lemon and olive oil and grilled; Southern Fried Chicken (this I could not resist)"

Resist, David, resist!

"... seasoned with a secret blend of spices, North Carolina BBQ Ribs,"

We can't stop him folks, DPC is improvising Soul Food arpeggios like Coltrane on the sax. Let him flow. Only when DPC achieves the collard greens ... then and only then, sweet reader, will the jazz be spent, all Aristotelian potentio exhausted, and the obligatory Kool Aid can be fetched from the pantry:

" ... cooked in a sweet and piquant BBQ sauce, so tender they practically fall off the bone; Candied Yams, with a hint of lemon, with fresh figs and dried cherries; Black Eye Pea Fritters, which are Brazilian and Nigerian favorites ? featuring jalapeno peppers and coriander in a resfreshing riff on traditional black eyed peas, and Cabbage and Collard Greens. Oh, heavenly."

Heavenly, indeed, but what about the postprandial hydroponic blunt and Henny on the stoop with the homiez, David? Like, they don't have stoops above 59th Street on the UES? You can't have Black eye pea fritters without an after dinner blunt, DPC, that's uncivilized! Tomorrow tune in to NYSocialDiary, where the most excellent DPC will be rapping about "the bitches" at the Junior League's "Orient Express" ball.
